Chapter 44
Jennifer's POV
"What?!" My parents exclaimed in astonishment almost jumping out of the armchair. I didn't react.
"Yes, you heard me clearly." I said.
"That's impossible. You can't betray us because of a man." my dad began.
"Look here, I have a very rich and handsome suitor for you. Give him a try, he is better than Desmond." my dad urged and I smirked.
"I'm sorry dad but I can't do what you want this time. I'm going to follow my heart and whether you support me or not, it's no longer necessary." I informed them seriously and advanced to my room.
"Is it worth it?" my mum's voice stopped me and I turned to them.
"Do you think this man would chose you when you're no longer our heir?" she curled her lips and I smiled brightly.
"I also want to know. If he loves me for my wealth or naturally." I left the living room without turning back.
I arranged my clothes in my box and prepared to leave the house, I called Desmond but it wasn't connecting. It got me worried but I encouraged myself not to be weak and negative.
I booked a hotel instead with the aim of leaving as soon as I could reach Desmond.
The hotel room was standard and classic, I loved everything about it especially the white duvet on the bed that was closer to the wide panoramic view of the city.
I exhaled heavily in relief as my phone started ringing, it was Eliora.
"Hey babe, how was it?" she sounded anxious over the phone.
"I did as you said and now I'm scared." I paused.
"Desmond's phone isn't connecting." I complained.
"Calm your nerves and relax, everything will be fine." she convinced me and I smiled.
"Thank you so much babe, I wouldn't have been able to do this if not for you." I said.
"It's alright. I'm glad that you are fine. Don't overthink, your parents will somehow come back to you." she said and my eyes spread wide.
"Really?" I questioned.
"Yes but it might take a little time. Just groom your relationship with Desmond." she began and I smirked.
"I'm waiting for a wedding invitation soon." she said sarcastically and I laughed at the one that fit.
"Sure, sure. Too bad you wouldn't fit as Chief bride's maid." I sighed sadly.
"Who told you? I'm not that old." she disagreed and I laughed.
Suddenly, I started hearing a faint crying baby's voice in the background.
"Okay, mother's duty calls..." I reminded her with a teasing voice.
"Right? Bye then." the call ended and I smiled.
She was always there to give me momentum and encourage me whenever things seems to be going south.
Immediately, my phone vibrated. I wondered if it was Eliora again as I slid the unlock.
It was a message from Desmond whose contact was saved as "Babe" on my phone.
[[Babe: Meet me at the city park tomorrow morning]]
I smiled at the message as my mind wondered what idea he had up in his head.
I plopped on the bed and exhaled deeply, gradually closing my eyes.
I couldn't wait for the day to properly brighten as I jumped out from the bed and started my day.
I wore a body fitted black gown, my modi bag and a flat shoe as I left my hotel room. My ride was already waiting for me, so it took few hours before I arrived at the park.
Since it's morning hours, it was dry and isolated unlike it's weekend and evening grooving spirit.
"You are here." his husky voice called me out of my reverie.
"Babe." I rushed over and embraced him, he stroke my back.
"I'm so sorry about last time. I was under the weather." he whispered apologetically in my ear and I nodded.
"It's okay, I never took offense in it." I smiled as we slowly pull from each other.
"Why did you call me here?" he held my hand as we strolled in the park.
"There is something I think you need to know." he sounded serious and I faced him.
"And what is that?" my lips pursed desperately waiting for his response.
"I never mean to hide it away from you but I had my reasons." we stopped walking, staring at each other.
I didn't know where he was driving at.
"Can you just say it rather than keeping me in suspense?" I raised a brow and he rubbed his chin.
"Madam Margaret is not my mother." he spilled and my mouth hung in the air.
"What?" my gaze increased on him.
"That's not all." he bent over to me, grabbing my shoulders.
"This park you are standing on, belongs to me." he informed me vividly with his sincere eyes piercing into mine.
I shook my head in disbelief. I didn't want to believe him, how was that possible?
"Babe, if this is a joke.. you can stop it." I said licking my lips and he smirked.
"You don't believe me?" he asked me.
"Then why the disguise? Why did you lie to me for five whole years?" I cried out to him.
"Because I don't want to be fooled again. Other ladies take me for a fool after knowing the kind of wealth I manage." he paused with a sigh.
"I wanted something real, I wanted something serious. That was why I went on disguise, hiding in my aunt's house until I met you." he explained to me meticulously and I sighed.
"This is freaking surprisingly. I don't know if I should believe you." I batted my lashes.
"This park is one of the biggest and functional in the city, not only that, it has lot of activities that demands passes." I halted.
"If we are rashly calculating, you are way richer than Romans and I." I concluded while nodding my head, he smirked.
"But I don't want competitors, I want love and I found that with you." He grabbed my waist gently and pulled me closer to his chest, I shivered in shock as his touch sent chills up my spine.
"I had to go with the last resort because I don't want to lose you, I guess this is the only way to win your parents over." He smiled and I nodded sheepishly.
"Is that an I love you, Dessy?" He winked and I blushed shyly.
"Of course, I love you so much babe." I said nervously.
He bent my head over and dive into a deep kiss as our lips connected. I kissed him passionately.
Finally, he was going to be truly mine.
