Chapter 7

”Take as much weekend as you want” his words generated her heart as she curbed the car into the garage.

The next day, Emerald left the house early to pick Christine up from school.

“Take me to my father’s company,” Christine said.

“No, Christine. Your father warned me not to take you there on any occasion” she said.

“You have no right to stop me,” Christine warned.

“Just take me there and mind your business” Christine snorted.

“But Christy…” She begins but stops halfway.

“I won’t repeat myself, Miss. Emerald” she said politely but incredibly vivid.

Emerald had no choice but to drive Christine down to her father’s company. The popular B Group in the city that is in charge of import and export of interior and exterior materials around the country, could be food productions, domestic appliances or electronics.

She alighted from the car with Christine and they strolled into the amazing giant company, the security check immediately gave them pass without hesitation.

“Young Miss. Christine” the receptionist called out in a polite tone.

“Is my dad in his office?” Christine ignored her greeting and asked bluntly.

“Well, Mr. Blake is in a meeting but I can inform him of your presence” the receptionist started to ramble the telephone, Christine rolled her eyes in disgust.

“Don’t bother. I can usher myself in” Emerald followed her like a fool into the restricted and isolated hall way.

“You don’t have to follow me” Christine had a slight pause.

If they take the next step, the office of the Chief Executive Officer’s office will be the next.

“I… I have to, as your maid” she informed.

“Whatever”.

Without knocking, Christine entered the office with Emerald.

“Dad!” Christine called out happily.

“Who brought you here?” he questioned in annoyance as soon as he caught sight of them.

“Good day, sir” she said politely in order to announce her present since it seems she was not noticed.

“Why did you bring her here?” he asked angrily.

“I… I.. We thought of saying hi to you before heading home” she struggled to lie but it came out blatantly.

“Nonsense” he hits his table angrily and Christine rushes over to him.

“Dad, I missed you so much so I asked her to drive me down here. Are you not happy to see me?” Christine asked dolefully, she embraced her father’s waist.

“Get off me. I never wanted any visitor here” he yanked and pulled her away from his body.

“Take her back home and for you, your salary is deducted” he cursed, immediately her stomach and Christine’s stomach grumble.

Soon after, Blake’s stomach also grumbled, she smirked.

“How about having lunch together before we head home” Christine skeptically suggested.

“I... I’m not hungry” he denied but his stomach failed him, it grumbled again.

“You have to admit you are hungry, sir.” she said.

As soon as they finish having lunch with Blake, she rides back home and in the evening meets them on their way.

They entered into the quiet living room and met Shirley sitting on the armchair, she gnashed her teeth in anger with her pumped fist.

At one look, it is obvious that she is furious and would kill anyone.

Bowing her head down with Christine walking beside her, she approached Shirley.

“Good evening, ma'am,” she said.

“Good evening, mum,” Christine said.

“Where did you take my child to?” Shirley asked.

“I…” she begins but Christine abruptly cuts her off.

“Mum, she drove me to dad’s office and dad had lunch with us” Christine paused.

“As if that was not enough, dad started complimenting her and she also gave dad some go ahead” Christine turned to her and back to her mother.

“I think she wants to take dad away from us” Christine cried out and she was left shocked.

She couldn’t believe that Christine would spill such a lie without blinking and with no conscience; she was left in daze for minutes.

“Oh, really? I saw that coming” Shirley gradually stands from the armchair.

“You are nothing but a home wrecker and a husband snatcher” Shirley cursed in anger.

“I didn’t make any move on your husband and Christine asked me to drive her there” she said outrightly.

“You are now pushing the blame on my child right? You are so evil” Shirley yelled.

“Ma’am please listen to me or call your husband, I think he can explain better” she said sadly.

“You are now running shits with my husband, that is why you have the guts to instruct me on what to do?” Shirley said rhetorically, her neck veins straightened up and she looked furious.

“I would never do that, ma’am. How do you want me to further explain my innocent conscience?” she impatiently turns to Christine.

“Christy, can you tell mummy the truth?” she urged politely with desperation in her eyes.

“There is nothing to tell my mum, you only have to tell my mother the truth” Christine said vividly.

Christine still stands firm in her word, maintaining fearlessness. She has been thinking of creating friendship with Christine but this act of hers has ripped off her patience and kindness.

“I will have to beat you up, lock you up and fire you before you bring bad luck into my family” Shirley said.

“Who is there?” Shirley calls out and a maid rushes out from the kitchen.

“Yes, ma’am” the maid bowed.

“Get me the hot iron. I will use it and give her a stigma on her face” Shirley blabbed devilishly.

The maid nodded and rushed back into the kitchen.

“Christine, go back to your room. Mum will take care of everything here” Shirley said.

“Good night” and Christine turned back to Emerald.

“I’m really sorry, I have no choice” Christine mouthed out a few words in a low tone as she left for her room.

The maid comes in with the hot iron; it oozes out smoke that gives her frantic shivers.

“I will give you a mark that will make you stay away from people’s man forever” Shirley beckons closer to her face and she moves backward in fear.

“Whose face are you trying to temper with?” The voice of Blake resonated in the room; it came with vigor and authority.
