Chapter 2
With her size, the child could be seen as two years old or older.
Emerald strolled to the child and bent closer to her, the child was holding a furious gaze filled with disdain. Emerald couldn't tell what the problem of the child was, she cleared her throat softly.
"Hey baby, are you feeling alright?" Emerald questioned politely.
But the child gave her an obnoxious stare and kept silent. Her attitude pissed Emerald off but she made a comeback, this child didn't stop crying. Isn't she annoying?
"Baby, where are your parents?" Emerald asked.
Getting no response but loud cries for the second time, Emerald carried the child in her arms and started stroking her back tenderly.
After a few whimpering sounds, the child went silent. Immediately, everyone in the hall gazed at her in astonishment.
They were not expecting the rude child to fall asleep on a stranger's arm.
Soon, a tall masculine figure entered the hall and all eyes went to him. The ladies started whispering and exclaiming in shock which triggered Emerald to turn backwardly.
She automatically fell silent at the sight of the magnificent figure in front of her. He was a tall handsome man with a straight chin, he had arch hairy brows that looked furrowed, his hair was curly and perfectly primped, he had dazzling pairs of ocean blue eyes and medium matte lips. Accorded with his broad shoulders and wide chest, he was a man to behold, his handsomeness was temptation.
"Hello?" this time, he waved his hands in the air. It seems he has been calling her for some time now and she was lost in his domineering aura and beauty.
"Yes?" she reacted startled.
"Can I have my child back?" he sneered arrogantly.
She rolled her eyes at him, the crowd and back at the sleeping child
"Is she your child?" she asked rhetorically.
Suddenly, a lady runs into the hall in heavy steps and approaches her.
"Mr. Hampton, someone finally put Christy to sleep…" the lady stopped talking immediately she saw Emerald standing with the said "Mr. Hampton".
"You know the child?" Emerald anxiously questioned.
"Yes, she is Mr. Blake's only child" the lady confirmed and you nodded, handing the child back to her father.
"My child hardly falls asleep on a stranger's arm neither does she often. I think she likes you" Mr. Hampton said.
"Thank you", seeing it as a compliment, she pledged.
"Sir, I think she is suitable for the job," the lady said.
"Which job?" she raised a brow.
"The Hamptons family are searching for a qualified babysitter that will take care of their child in their absence and the child must like that person" the lady paused.
"Over the years, Christy hardly related or accepted anyone. It's a good thing she is subtle to you" the lady added with a smile, Emerald only nodded sheepishly.
What does one expect her to do?
"So you think being a nanny is what suits me? Like as a qualified graduate as I'm" she stared at the lady and Mr. Hampton in disdain.
The other applicants began to wonder what the scene was all about, then the lady cleared her throat loudly.
"Listen up everyone!" the lady called their attention.
"I'm Miss. Cherry, the one that posted the vacancy online" cherry paused.
"The reason for this vacancy was because the Hamptons family needed a qualified babysitter. But at the moment, we have seen a suitable babysitter" cherry let out a sweet smile.
"Sorry to disappoint everyone but you have to vacate the building now. Thanks!" Cherry instructed apologetically.
With frowning faces and curt murmuring, the applicants left the hall.
She wasn't getting the full dose of what was going on around her, so she walked closer to Cherry.
"You haven't answered my question, what if I reject the job?" she asks, annoyed.
Mr. Hampton left with the child while she continued to banter with Cherry.
"I know you will accept the job" Cherry informed confidently.
"Why?" She got curious. It was as if Cherry was implying something else.
"Because of the enticing pay" Cherry said holding a mischievous smile, she smirked.
"You think money moves me?" she crossed her arms fringing annoyance.
"No but one billion dollars a month with exclusive accommodation will definitely move you" Cherry laughs out loud while her eyes spread wider as if they were going to pop out.
"Come to my office if you are interested. '' Cherry catwalk back to the quiet hallway.
After a brief pause, her third sense returned and she looked sideways.
"Of course, of course your office" and she hurried anxiously in order to trail Cherry.
Running into the hospital with a smile on her face, for a while she forgot her sorrow. Fortunately, the employment she had just gotten was so favorable that they paid her half of her salary in advance.
"You are ...?" the nurse behind the counter questioned cryptically whilst trying to see if she could recognize her.
"I'm Emerald, I'm here for my mother, Felicia" she said enthusiastically.
After checking the record, the nurse showed her to the room where her mother had been moved to and she left.
She quietly walks on the hospital passage in search of her mother's room.
"Mum!" she screamed happily, entering the hospital room.
"Emerald, my child" her mother called out softly.
Her mother had a white bandage wrapped around her head and some patches on her face, she was currently on drip. Emerald sat close to her mother on the nearby seat.
"Mum, how are you feeling?" she asks, concerned.
"I'm good dear, thank you so much" her mother said.
"I'm so sorry for the stress I have caused you" her mother frowned slightly making the wrinkles on her face fold in triple.
"It's alright, mum. That's my conjugal duty as your child" she let out an assuring smile to please her mother and it worked.
"When can I be discharged? This hospital sucks" her mother said.
"The doctors said you are good to leave as soon as I make the necessary payments" she informed.
"And do we have such money for the bills?" her mother asked anxiously.
"It's alright. I also got a job and was paid in advance, so I can afford the bill" she said courageously and her mother nodded slowly.
"You keep making me proud honey" she patted her daughter's face wearing a sad smile.
"I will go make payments now" she squeezed her mother's hand softly before standing from the seat.
