Chapter Twenty-Two: Not Me, Then Nobody

Romans' POV

I sat on my desk going through paperwork while Paige sat across me, typing something on her Lenovo laptop.

"Sir" Paige calls politely.

"Yeah" I raised a brow with my eyes still fixed on the document.

"There are some updates I just received now" Paige said turning the laptop to me, I dropped the document.

"What is it?" I asked as I didn't have much patience to go through the laptop with a tiny font.

"Ms. Jennifer kicked Ms. Eliora out of the company's mansion and replaced her with Ma'am Jane" Paige informed courteously.

"What do you mean?" I ask, confused.

"Ms. Eliora is no longer in the company's accommodation" Paige said abstractly.

"What! How could Jenny do such a thing without my permission?" I asked in provocation.

"She said Ma'am Jane also deserves the least comfort," Paige said.

"She's crossing her boundary" I clenched my fist in anger.

"Sir, should we make any further changes?" Paige asked anxiously.

"I.." I started but there was a soft knock on the door and immediately it pulled open.

"Brother Romans!" Jane calls in excitement and I fringe a smile.

"My little diamond." I said.

"How's work?" Jane asked.

"Excuse me sir" Paige bowed shortly and left the office with her laptop.

"How did you see the university?" I asked.

"Very cool. My sister in-law remains the best." Jane chirped.

"And what happens if I don't marry her at the end?" I asked sarcastically.

"Well... I'm going to ask the court to change my name because I can't have a heartless brother." Jane bluffed and I laughed.

"That's never going to happen." I assured her.

"I'll leave now." Jane said.

"Why the rush?" I asked anxiously.

"Sister Jennifer doesn't want me to bug you and I also want to go check my new apartment out." Jane explained and I nodded.

"Sure, go ahead." I said.

"Take care Bro" Jane said and left the office, I sighed.

Family remains the best, I guess.

Evening came so fast, I really didn't imagine it to rush so fast... I also didn't cross paths with Eliora, how was she doing? I know not.

I walked into the restaurant that Jennifer had reserved for us to have dinner with confident stride, the restaurant looked classic and nice.

"Honey!" Jennifer waved at me shortly with a smile on her face, I nod and proceed towards her.

"Babe." I said as I took my seat.

"Did I keep you waiting?" I asked.

"Of course not, I just arrived." Jennifer said.

"Have you placed the orders yet?" I asked lovingly.

"Yes dear, our favorite." Jennifer smiled.

"You're so nice." I acknowledged her sincerely.

"Only for my hubby." Jennifer said sarcastically.

"So, you want to tell me something?" I asked nervously.

"What?" Jennifer asked, staring at me clueless.

"You and Eliora seem to be fighting." I managed to say in order not to stir up any lingering jealousy.

"Eliora.... We're cool." Jennifer said plainly but her voice seemed to be bickering, I smirked.

"Are you hiding something away from me? Tell me." I persuaded.

"She sees me as a bug and I think we need some space." Jennifer sparks up sadly.

"Oh.. it's okay babe. I have no idea... I'm sorry." I stuttered pleading.

"It's alright." Jennifer inhales sharply as the waitress placed our orders neatly on the table.

"Let's eat." I forced a smile and she nodded.

Eliora's POV

Tony had already carried my boxes from the mansion thus after work, we drove back to my former estate.

I and Tony walked into the estate. I mean it's been a long time since I visited there, Tony was rolling my boxes while I walked in front leading the way.

As soon as I was about to unlock the door, the old landlady Madam Margaret called me out and I turned to her.

"Good morning Ma." I greeted fringing a bright smile.

"You're back?" Madam Margaret snorted as if she wasn't happy with my return but I still smiled.

"Yes Ma" I said, she nodded and left for her mansion.

"Tony, you can leave now. I mean before Ms. Jennifer calls you." I said as if annoyed.

"It's okay Ms. Eliora. I was appointed to be your secretary by Mr. Romans." Tony informed me.

"But we can't stay together... I have just one bed!" I said shamefully as I unlocked the apartment door.

"I know." Tony smiled.

"And?" I raised a brow walking into the living room, he followed with my boxes.

"I have rented the room after Ms. Jennifer's." Tony said and I turned to him.

"When did you do that without my consent?" I asked in astonishment.

"After I got the memo. I'm sorry boss." Tony said apologetically and I sighed.

"It's okay." I said.

"Mind if we have some chocolate bar while seeing a movie?" Tony asked.

"In my situation, you think I'm happy to watch movies?" I asked.

I couldn't get what's running in his cute empty head, is my current mood ready to watch some movie...? I wasn't happy, really. Jennifer disappointed me... Maybe I disappointed her at first, argh!

I sighed.

"It's okay if you don't want it." Tony's mood was saddened as he sat on the armchair.

"It's okay. I'll bring us some chocolate, you sort for the movie." I said.

"Sure." Tony smiled and I left.

Before leaving, I saw a familiar silhouette through the curtain and immediately I rushed to open the door but I found no one around.

My mind couldn't let the whole scenario go thus I rushed barefooted out of the estate and then I saw a very familiar ocean blue Lexus car leaving the street, I smiled.

"Ms. Eliora." Tony calls out from behind and I react startled.

"Yeah?" I exhaled.

"What's the problem?" Tony asked anxiously with his eyes rolling sideways.

"Nothing. Let's go in." I said.

"Are you sure?" Tony asks, concerned.

"Yeah." I said pushing him from his waist into the estate, he concurred.

Smile took residence on my face, what was he doing here? Does this show that he wasn't in support of Jennifer's action? Why was I so happy?

I pushed the thought off my head and focused on my current affairs.

Romans POV

After dinner, I and Jennifer walked out of the restaurant heading towards the park where I had parked my car.

"Babe, I'll rush back home now." Jennifer said.

"Why?" I asked anxiously tucking my hand into my trouser pocket.

Was she going to visit Eliora?... I would love to tag along though.

"I'll go see if Jane has settled down properly." Jennifer said lovingly.

"Oh Jane." I paused.

"You're quite stubborn, you know." I said in a sarcastic tone and she blushed.

"What do you mean?" Jennifer asked.

"Chasing Eliora out of the company accommodation without my consent... It's quite rude." I informed but remained reserved with a smile.

"I think for some reason, she deserves it." Jennifer crossed her arms and sighed.

"Let me see how she intends to live her life without me and my support." Jennifer said courageously and I smirked. It was unlike her.

"You better hurry." I stroke her hair to the back of her ear.

"Yeah... Yeah." Jennifer planted a soft peck on my cheek and left into the street making some calls.

I stood in the park for quite some time before making my way into the car.

One thing a human can't control is the... Heart. And I think that's the most annoying thing God created, Heart! It makes one look like a fool... as if you're being controlled by some unforeseen force.

I found myself in Eliora's street and I didn't bother to imagine what I was doing there because it sounds crazy.

I curbed the car to a corner and stopped the engine, clicking the lock button I walked into the quiet estate.

"Good morning" a young responsible looking man holding a hairy white puppy greeted with a smile on his face, he continuously fondles the puppy's hair.

"Morning." I raised an anxious brow.

"I'm Mr. Desmond." the young man paused.

"Are you looking for someone?" Mr. Desmond, as he said, asked politely.

"Not really. But sorry to disturb you." I apologized immediately.

"It's okay" Mr. Desmond left the mansion with his pet while I exhaled and proceeded into the estate.

I heard voices.

"Don't worry Boss, I was appointed to be your secretary by Mr. Romans." That was the voice of Tony I heard, I hurriedly walked further.

"But I just have..." the voice became lighter as they entered the apartment.

Tony.

What was he doing inside a single lady's house? Has he forgotten his job? Argh! What's my mother fucking business.

I wanted to leave but I stopped when I heard Tony asking for a movie and chocolate time together.

Really? Was this what it is? Are they having an affair?

"I'll get rid of this scum bag." I clenched my hands and proceeded closer to the door when I heard the keys making the sound of opening, I ran frantically.

I have no reason to but I just did.

Eliora's POV

The portable alarm clock beside my bed first made its annoying sound before the hard bang on my door.

I almost forgot I'm now a worker and not some unemployed student, I jerked up from the bed still somnolent to open the door.

"Morning Ma'am." Tony greeted.

He looked already dressed in his black business suit while I stared at him clueless, I was still in my sexy night wear.

Even though I've no man in my life, I do sleep looking hot and yummy.

"You've to attend the meeting by 9:00am." Tony reminded me as I ushered him into the living room.

"I haven't bathed or had breakfast." I complained.

"You can have breakfast at the office." Tony suggested and I nodded.

"I'll freshen up then." I said as I left Tony to sort himself out.

I had a quick bath and in minutes, we were on our way to the office. As I go through the documents, I take deep bites from the green sweet apple.

"Will Mr. Hank from the customer service unit report to work today?" I asked.

"Yes ma." Tony said courteously with his eyes fixed on the road.

"Invite him to my office after the morning meeting." I said.

"Yes ma." Tony said.

I nodded quietly, biting the apple and flipping the documents slowly.
