Chapter Sixteen: And Then, He Came

Eliora's POV

Last night was a long one as Jennifer insisted on taking me to the club where I drowned myself on liquors.

As soon as I woke up, I made my way to the bathroom to watch my face before heading to the kitchen to drink some hangover soup... If there's any.

I walked back into the bedroom to sleep again but a call came in... the call that changed my life.

"Hello," I said drowsily.

"WAKE- UP- BITCH!!" Jennifer screamed over the phone and I laughed.

"I'm awake fool" I cursed.

"What's it?" I asked.

"Come to the address I sent earlier to you, ASAP," Jennifer said vividly.

"It's hell 8:00 am bitch" I reminded.

"It's now or never. This is the surprise I have for you" Jennifer said.

"Surprise... I think I'll start hating surprises" I snorted.

"Less talking. Please hurry and report here before 10" Jennifer said.

"Gosh! Sure, I'll try" I sighed.

"Love ya!" Jennifer smacked a kiss, I heard the sound and smirk and the call ended.

Sorting out dresses in my closet, I wondered about the surprise Jennifer had for me.

Was it some early morning party? Was it an outing? What? What? I couldn't seem to figure out her plan neither could I find the right dress that would suit the occasion.

I took off a blue jeans trouser and a white polo from the closet and started preparing to leave the house as fast as I could.

I walked on the street trying to figure out the building as Jennifer's message didn't outline the exact location and I knew nowhere, I turned to every curve staring at countless tall buildings and the so-called friend wasn't taking her calls.

"Where next do I go?" I muttered sadly as I read through the message again then I saw a familiar name "R- Industry" written in bold letters on the top of an almost skyscraper building.

"What?.. Did she mistake the address or something? What are we doing here?" as I wondered, I cowardly walked into the building.

The reception hall was very wide and spacious with expensive armchairs, vases, tables, lights, and other electronic appliances, aside from the receptionist and a lady sitting on the waiting armchair the reception hall looked empty. I proceed to the receptionist counter wearing a confident smile.

"Hi," I waved shortly as the receptionist lifted her gaze at me.

"Oh! You're here!" A familiar voice shouted from afar and I turned.

"Jenny" I called out.

"What took you so long?" Jennifer asked anxiously.

"You're late" Jennifer added.

"No. I'm fashionably late" I winked.

"I want you to meet someone," Jennifer said as the elevator beside us rang and slowly opened.

"Who?" I asked anxiously.

Then, I saw him... Romans.

In the past, I didn't give you a better description of my Ex but now it seems there are some differences that I'd love you to know about.

Meet Romans, a young handsome man of thirty-three years, he is one point seventy-six meters tall (1.76m), he has soft matte pink lips, he has two pairs of ocean blue eyes, his chin is straight with perfectly shaved and creamed beards on the sides of his face, he has a trendsetter hairstyle that looks like a short brunette hair, the hair is parted on the front it's a little bit longer and it falls over his forehead giving him a dashing sexy look. The last time I met him, he was looking for a job before we both left for Italy... so for now, I can't say anything about his occupation.

I didn't realize I had been staring at him for quite some time until Jennifer tapped me softly on my shoulder and I fretted cowardly.

"Meet Romans Robin Robert, my fiancè," Jennifer said happily as she walked and stood beside Roman.

I couldn't say a word, I mean I didn't know how to react. My best friend... no... the lady who seemed closer to me was dating my Ex!

"What!"

"He engaged her?"

"Jennifer and Romans?"

Thoughts ran wild upstairs and I couldn't control them, there wasn't any hope for him and I ... He ... I was still lost in my thoughts when a familiar deep soft romantic voice called me out.

"Nice to meet you, Miss. Eliora" Romans' hand was stretched out waiting for a handshake.

"Yeah.. sure, you too" I stuttered as I shook his hand.

His hand was still the same, cold but warm... He let go of my hand and returned his to his trouser pocket.

"My lady told me lots about you," Romans said.

"Oh!" I nodded continuously.

"So.. what are we doing here?" I asked nervously staring at Jennifer.

"Can we talk in his office?" Jennifer suggested.

"Sure" Romans agreed and I nodded.

We walked into the Chief Executive Officer's office as shown on the nameplate.

"Chief Executive Officer? What are we doing here?" I wondered as I closed the door.

The office was spacious and very wide, beside it were long armchairs that looked soggy with a center table, his desk was sparkling brown and on the nameplate, I saw "CEO: Mr. Romans Robin Robert" and I stared in awe.

When did he become the CEO of such a big company in New York and I heard no news?

The office had a large panoramic view of the city, we sat on the armchair and as I told you... It was soggy.

"So.. what are we doing here?" I asked again as Romans turned the red wine into the glasses.

"Since you've graduated, I want to offer you a white-collar job," Jennifer said happily as she collected the glass from Romans.

"A job?" I asked as Romans walked closer to me, I pointed to the table and he dropped the glass on it.

"My lady tried hard to convince me, so you better accept it" Romans tried to convince me.

"Which job is it?" I asked.

"Supervisor in checking out agricultural products," Jennifer said smiling.

"Kindly explain," I said politely.

"You will supervise any crops and food distributed to this company and make sure it's suitable and not expired... Didn't you study plant and all of it?" Romans asked anxiously and I nodded.

"I don't need the job," I said bluntly.

I did the right thing... Right? I mean you don't expect me to accept working under the same roof with my Ex and my best friend... who are almost married... I can't.

"Before concluding, take a look at the nice conditions and pay" Jennifer sits beside me showing the contract document to me.

"Half a million dollars every month, free duplex accommodation, free company car, and monthly upkeep payment" I read slowly as my eyes widened in surprise.

I really couldn't say no to this job... This was a dream job! But, what would become of me working with them?
