Chapter Thirty: Appointments on Vacationn

Eliora's POV

Today was my last menstruation day and I'm actively ready to start work by tomorrow.

My loud Bluetooth speaker inside the living room was playing "Unstoppable by Sia". I heard it lightly from outside where I was, cleaning my footwears and humming the music.

"Eliora" Desmond calls out as he approaches me, I lift my gaze away from what I was doing.

"Dessy" I smiled.

"You've been at home recently, have you been fired?" Desmond asked in a mocking tone and I stared at him, fringing anger.

"You dare!" I shouted and he laughed.

"Whatever. Where's Jenny?" Desmond asked anxiously as his eyes wandered around my apartment.

"Do I live with her now?" I asked as if annoyed.

"Not really," Desmond shrugged.

"Anyways, Jenny is preparing for her wedding. She's been pretty busy lately" I informed.

And drastically, Desmond's mood saddened. Why? Don't tell me he has developed feelings for his sworn enemy? Nature...

"What? Ain't you happy?" I ask in a sarcastic tone.

"I'm. I'm. At least someone as rude as her finds a man" Desmond said in annoyance and I laughed slightly.

"You... You don't love her?" I asked slyly.

"Why will I like her? I hate her of course. She's just too... picky and showy" Desmond stutters and I couldn't stop laughing.

"What?" Desmond asked nervously.

"Nothing. Go check yourself in the mirror when talking about Jenny" I teased.

"What!?" Desmond screamed shyly.

"Go away" I said puckishly throwing the dirty water at him and of course he dodged and left into his house, I laughed once more.

He loves someone's fiance while I love his fiancee... Wasn't it crazy?

I laughed as I arranged my footwear on the shoe rack.

The next day, I was dressed in a high waist black skirt and a long sleeve top and in my hand, I was holding an old shopping bag that had Romans' suit in it.

With elegant strides, I entered the elevator ignoring the silly gossip from minor staff.

"Paige. Kindly give this to Mr. Romans" I said politely.

"Yes ma'am" Paige received the shopping bag.

Luckily I met Paige on the passage thus I handed the bag to her and left for my office.

10:30am.

The meeting was about to start. I sat on a singular couch and in front of me were my junior colleagues.

"Let's start," I said.

"Sure" They nodded.

"I got a report from the farmers market last week. I improvised so it won't get to the desk of Mr. Romans" I started and they listened attentively.

"The ten cartons of tomatoes with the trademark number RI5009921 were rotten and had maggots but they were kept in the distribution unit... What do you have to say?" I asked anxiously.

"The thing is that..." the only lady in the midst of two grumpy men started but was cut off by their furious glare, I noticed it and smirked.

"I could vividly remember checking this package with Mr. Ralf. Is there something I missed?" I asked cryptically.

"No ma. Maybe you didn't notice it will spoil in an interval of two days" the first grumpy man named Judas said certainly.

"Oh really. I spent four years in the university yet I have no idea when a product is bad... Do I deserve to be the supervisor then?" I asked as if annoyed.

"We are sorry ma'am. I'll ask the cleaners to thoroughly clean the distribution room in case there's any source to our problem" the second grumpy man named Miller suggested.

"If the distribution room was untidy, the cartons would've been stained but everything looked neat. I also knew that the product can last up to a month... So, I don't see any issue from this side" I said, staring at each of them anxiously, the lady was shaking helplessly.

Were they hiding something?

"Speak," I said to the lady.

"Ma'am... I know the problem" the lady named Emma stuttered nervously.

Don't wonder, their names were on the tags around their neck. I'm not yet a mind reader... Lols.

"I'm all ears" I said, interested.

"Ma'am, she's just a newbie that..." Judas started but was cut off.

"I started working here one year before you arrived," Emma said courageously.

Where did this courage come from? I smirked.

"Ma'am. After you finish supervision, Mr. Miller and Mr. Judas conspire to change the product with rotten once. Their reason was that they want you to leave this company and they want their wives to have a taste of fresh vegetables" Emma informed courteously while I nodded.

"Woa" I continued nodding.

"Ma'am... It's not true" Miller argued.

"Ma'am... You see" Judas started but couldn't continue.

"So, you changed the vegetables in order to implicate me and satisfy your lustful desires... Thank goodness I quickly improvised" I said confidently.

"We are sorry ma'am" Miller and Judas pleaded pitifully.

"Do I have the right to fire them?" I asked, amazed Emma.

"Yes ma" Emma nodded certainly.

"Well... Miller and Judas, you'll have to struggle next time in order to fight someone stronger and also satisfy yourselves" I stood from the couch walking back to my desk, they followed suit standing and staring at me in silence.

"I'm not that heartless to fire you because I know what it feels like to be jobless" I carefully sat down.

"You're demoted down to the lavatory unit" I said vividly.

"Ma'am!" They both screamed falling on their knees.

"What?" I asked as if nothing had happened.

"That's... That's too cruel ma" Miller said sadly while Judas was already sweating even under the air condition.

I laughed slightly.

"Should I fire you then?" I asked anxiously and they fell silent.

"Leave now" I said as if angry and focused on a document in front of me.

As soon as my phone rang, no one told them to leave the office.

"Hello Becca" I called out smiling.

"Hey sis. How are you?" Rebecca asked

"I'm good and you?" I asked.

"Not so good" Rebecca sounded sad.

"What happened?" I asked anxiously, closing the document.

"Noah rushed the wedding date again. I'm getting all pissed off" Rebecca complained.

"What's his reason?" I asked.

"He said he wants us to travel to Canada because of his work" Rebecca explained sadly.

"I haven't even gotten my dress, shoes.. plans..goodness!" I screamed.

"Take it easy girl. It's my day though" Rebecca teased.

"I know, I know and I can't ask for another day off. Romans will “so” squeeze me alive" I frowned.

"I secretly invited him though, the wedding is this Saturday" Rebecca informed.

"What! Do you want to paranoid Jennifer and why Saturday? It's freaking tomorrow!" I exclaimed in amazement.

"Calm your nerves down" Rebecca tried to calm me down but I just can't calm down, not now.

"You better end this call so I can start preparing. I'll call the electrical company and the decor unit to recheck the venue. I'll hurry to the mall to find a cute dress that will fit my part. I'll also inform Jennifer about the change of plan" I said impatiently, scattering my hair.

"Inform Jennifer what?" a familiar voice comes from the door and I lift my gaze toward it.

It was Jennifer.

"Thank goodness you're here" I ended the call and proceeded toward her.

"What's it?" Jennifer asked anxiously.

"I'll explain while you drive, let's go" I said hurriedly and Jennifer nodded sheepishly as we left the office.
