Chapter 27
Emerald walks into Blake's study room with a cup of coffee, he lifts his gaze from the document he's reading to her and after letting out a beam; he returns to his work. She gently placed it on the table making sure it made no sound.
"Sir, coffee," she said.
"Thank you," he nodded.
"Sir, how are you feeling?" She decided to start a conversation. It's awkward to stay in the same house with him and not communicate.
"I'm very good. And you?" Then he dropped the document on the table with a deep sigh.
"I'm good sir" she smiled shyly avoiding his gaze.
She is yet to know what prompted her to be so embarrassed in presence of him.
"Emerald, right?" he raised a brow and she nodded in affirmative.
"I can't appreciate you enough for your support in my family. I mean you take care of our needs and make sure everything is in place" he halts.
"Increasing your pay won't be enough reward for you. You are so sincere and kind" he smiled, for the first time, she had seen him smile so comfortably and calmly.
She smiled brightly while shaking her head, or maybe shaking silly thoughts out.
"All my actions were not for any reward, though" she begins.
"I enjoy working with you, and your sweet child, Christy. It feels like... home here" as she speaks, she twirls the edge of her dress with her hand and at the sight of this; he smirks.
"I haven't asked yet, do you have a boyfriend or maybe a husband?" his eyes became thin holding curiosity as he relaxed on the seat, she cleared her throat nervously.
"No, I haven't engaged in one yet. No man has succeeded in moving my heart" she said in a teasing tone that made him laugh, it didn't last long.
"Obviously you are a pretty lady, finding the right one is only a matter of time" he nodded his head in cognitive.
"Thank you for your concern sir" she bowed shortly, he waved his hand in the air.
"No, no red tape. Enough of the curtsies" he instructed politely.
"Okay sir" she said.
"If there is nothing else, I will go ahead and bring Christine back to school" she informed.
"Oh, right. You can as well get me a few supplies from the mall" he said, going through his MacBook Pro laptop again.
She watched him in silence.
"Here is the ...list" he wrote down some words while speaking.
"Okay, sir" she received the list.
"And can you cut it out with the sir? I'm cool with Blake" he ended his word with a cute smile, she retaliated with a bright smile.
The loud general bell rang throughout the large building and soon children (students) rushed out to meet with their parents, guardian. Christine runs over to Emerald who she has seen from afar but was blocked by some of her mates.
"Where is our all time rich kid rushing off to?" the first child snorted with her eyes rolling all over Christine's body.
She's having a pink fluffy hairband that is used to gather her hair into clean buns, the other had golden curly hair.
"Please excuse me" Christine attempted to move but they pushed her back.
"No one can save you now, the last time I checked you don't have a mummy" and they burst into laughter, Christine was beginning to lose her cool.
"I said get out, else one of us will be expelled in this school" she is a new student like them all, she can't picture why they're couped to nitpick her.
This is one of the reasons she hates new schools. She rolled her eyes annoyed as the girls didn't move an inch.
"I will show you what it tastes like to be a new student with little or no rank" they pushed her and she staggered backward almost stumbling on the ground.
Meanwhile, Emerald walks briskly on the school yard with a smile on her face. She chuckles and blush each time she thinks of something that is known to only her. The cool breeze flushed on her face and her hair swung in the air.
"He is becoming sweeter and sweeter and sweeter by the day" she chuckles with her hands rounded in a soft fist, on her chest.
"I... I think I'm loving him already. But, he already has a child" she blushed and then frowned slightly.
Her delusion ended when she saw the back view of Christine and the other girls. She stopped at a spot.
"Isn't that Christy?" She charged towards them at a high pace.
"I will slap ..." the first girl tried to slap Christine but Emerald caught her thin hand in the air.
"And what gives you the impetus to temper with her face?" She fired in annoyance and the girls frantically stepped back.
"She has a mother?" the other girl whispered in confusion to the other girl.
"If I ever see you one meter close to her again, I will destroy those little faces of yours." she threatened.
"We.. we..." they stuttered awkwardly.
"It will be cool if you be friends with her rather than bully her" she crossed her arms.
"Don't come closer to her if you don't wish to be her friend" she informed them strictly.
"And who are you!?" the other courageous girl asked ahead in a very aggressive tone.
"I'm.." she broke up, looking timid and Christine smiled brightly.
"She is my mother, do you have any problem with that?" Christine informed them boldly, and she stared at her in shock. The girls were astonished, they looked at Emerald and back at Christine trying to fix the resemblance.
"Are you alright?" she bent over to Christine gently stroking her cheeks.
"I'm fine, thanks" Christine nodded.
They strolled back to the car park without exchanging words, emerald was obviously nervous and shy. She started the engine and Christine focused on her iPad.
"Christy..." she called out softly with a shaking voice.
"You called me?" Christine lifts her gaze away from the iPad.
"About earlier..." she fell shut nervously.
"Don't you want to be my mother?" Christine asked bluntly and it came to her like a shock, she tried to speak but couldn't say a word.
"Mother?" her heart begins to race speedly.
