Chapter 5

Involved

"Who are you?" she asked, immediately the person entered into the living room.

"I should be asking you that," he sighed.

"I'm Mr. Blake and you must be the new maid I got" he said.

"Oh, sir. I almost forgot you" she said.

"It's okay" he threw his suit on the armchair.

"Make me something to eat," he requested.

"My apologies, sir. I'm not allowed to use the kitchen once it's 11:00 PM" she informed me politely.

"What do you mean?" He furrowed his brow.

"I... I'm only following the rules" she said.

"Who is the ruler of this mansion, my wife or me?" He questioned.

"You, sir" she said with her head bow.

"Now get into that kitchen and prepare something for me to eat" he instructed lividly.

"Yes sir" and she rushed to the kitchen.

What a family. Arrogance reigns in their blood.

She prepared some dishes and served Blake. He had already gone to freshen up and was now wearing a white sleeveless shirt and shorts.

"I will leave you now," she said with a short bow.

"Where are your manners? How dare you leave when I'm not done eating?" He asked in a paranoid tone.

"It's past my bedtime sir" she defends herself steadily.

"For this, I will deprive you from sleeping" he said.

"She is more beautiful than the last time I saw her" he thought, these words only rested on his chest.

"Sir..." she cried out.

"Let me have peace while eating" he shunned her.

Emerald kept on standing till 3:30AM, she went straight to her room with her wobbling leg as soon as she was released.

Weekend rolled in unexpectedly and the Blake's were at home. None of them had any weekend activities.

Shirley assigned Emerald to prepare an outdoor breakfast which she did with the help of minor maids.

They prepared the table and seats in the garden beside the fountain where fresh water easily flushed in and out.

"I love this?" Christine admits rhetorically as she strolled to the garden with her parents.

Emerald stood  aside in silence waiting to be called upon.

She felt gazes on her and she turned to look, Blake was staring at her extremely passionately.

He has no fear of getting caught but what about her?

She quickly rolled her eyes away from him but he didn't stop until Shirley noticed.

Shirley cleared her throat.

"Emerald" Shirley called out.

"Yes, ma'am," she answered.

"Christine is cold, go get some blankets for her in her bedroom" Shirley instructed nicely.

Her annoying attitude changed within a sprint in time.

"I'm not cold!" Christine yapped.

"She is, go ahead".

"Yes" she nodded and walked back to the mansion.

Back in the mansion, she wondered which floor and part Christine's room is, as her last room was changed.

"Excuse me!" She called the attention of an old maid.

"Can I help you?" The maid asked.

"Where is little Christine's new room?" she questioned anxiously.

"It's in the west part." the maid said.

"West part?" she exclaimed.

"Yes" the maid left after a few minutes.

"Isn't it one of the restricted areas? As long as I was permitted to go there, then no problem" after ruminating for a few minutes, she strolled towards the west part.

In the garden, the Blake's have finished having breakfast but Emerald is yet to return.

"Here is becoming uninteresting, I'm going inside" Christine stands from the dining table.

"I will come with you darling." Shirley said.

"You don't have to act all clingy towards me whenever you see dad, piss off" Christine rolled her eyes and left.

"I will join her" with an extreme forced, tough smile, Shirley followed her daughter from behind.

Blake sighed.

Just as Emerald is coming out from the west part, she bumped into Shirley and Christine.

"Ma'am" her jaw dropped.

She had this guilty look on her face.

"How dare you step your filthy foot on the west part?!" Christine was the first to react, she shouted so angrily.

Christine has no character and can't control her temper, neither did her parents shun her while growing thus this has become a part of her life - it has become her nature and habit.

"The blanket.. ma'am, you asked me to get this blanket" she defended herself frantically.

"Did I ask you to use the west part?" Shirley approached her.

"How foolish have you become?!" after the word comes the hard slap on Emerald's cheek.

"Ma'am!" she squealed angrily.

"You even dare become furious!" this annoyed Shirley, she beckoned to slap her again but this time, it turned out differently.

Emerald grabbed her hand firmly in the air.

"I won't let you try that the second time. I'm your maid and not some random property" she informed courageously.

"What courage!" the hoarse annoyed voice of Blake echoed in the hall and immediately, she pushed Shirley's hand to herself.

"Sir" she bowed.

"You're becoming more and more daring" he approached her wearing a furious expression.

He was already flaming with anger and disgust.

"Can you remind me of your position in this house?" he questioned in contempt.

"I... I'm not guilty. Your wife outwitted me" she said ruefully.

"I asked you a question and not an explanation!" He shunned abruptly in anger.

"I.. I'm nothing but a mere maid" she said sadly.

"Good and you should know your position. How dare you speak or react when my wife acts?" He questioned.

"I won't repeat it again, sir" she said apologetically.

"I don't accept such an apology. I think you need to be fired before you do more harm!" Shirley cursed in desperation.

"I..." she began but stopped talking.

She was at a loss for words. She was in between thoughts, she doesn't know if quitting the job will be a good decision; but the pay is very cool.

"Please give me a last chance" she fell to her knees, begging sorrowfully.

One would think she is really in a dire situation, Christine smirks.

"Dad, don't let this ignorant crook go scout free" she dragged her blanket from her arms and left for her room.

"Emerald, from now on, this is your punishment" he said and she lifted her eyes from the ground.
