Chapter 24
Deborah happily prepares breakfast for her husband, Mr. Charles.
For a first class rich lady, she is too humble that her actions at times surprises her parents.
Mr. Charles is a well known bank manager who found love in the sight of Deborah. They have been courting for a year and seven months before they got engaged and married. But sometimes, one can hide his or her demonic attributes just to achieve their aim.
Especially men.
"Good morning, sweetheart" with a smile on her beautiful glittering face, Deborah goes in for a hug but receives a hot slap as a greeting.
"What?" she looked at her husband, the man she has loved for all she can remember, the man that treated her like silver and vowed never to hurt her, she looked at him in shock, confusion and astonishment.
"What? You want to tell me you don't know what you did?" he shouted at her in a harsh tone, without paying attention to her gender.
"What did I do?" her hand still rested on her now red cheek, she didn't wince in pain after the recess.
"I told you to iron the suit for my work today, did you do that? You fool, I will slap you again and again and again" he pointed straight at her face, tears beginning to gather around her eyelids.
She could not believe that her lover changed faster than even a chameleon. It has not been up to a month since she got married and he was already showing her his real boastful attitude.
"The next time you forget to do what I ask you or even temper with my things wrongly, you will have me to contend with in this house. Stupid" he spat at her annoyingly and stormed out of the kitchen, tears gushing out from her eyes as she fell roughly on the floor.
"What is happening to me? What is happening to me?" she muttered dolefully to herself with her hand supporting her cheek, it was not the real pain coming hurting her in her chest.
All Deborah wished for was getting married to the man of her dreams and living a peaceful life not permanently relying on her parents wealth, her parents also didn't make it mandatory that she must get married to a rich investor's son because they wanted their child's happiness.
Will they be glad to see her in this dire state? Will she also be able to cope with him as she has vowed... ' for the rest of her life '?
She stared blankly, reminiscing deeply, never caring whether the house burned down or not as tears rolled down her cheeks profusely.
With Blake's permission, Emerald visited the St. Morris High School with Christine for her academic year registration. Christine needed to be reviewed before getting accepted into the school. Fortunately, the school doesn't do racialism or partially, whether you are rich or not you must pass through the processes before getting accepted. It's also a great famous school that every rich family sends their children to.
They entered into the principal's office after being ushered in by his secretary.
"Please take your seat" the fat chubby principal showed them an empty seat across from him which they sat on.
The name plate had his name already written on it "Principle Zuckerberg, Berg".
"You must be her mother or.." Berg raised an anxious brow, his eyes were focused on what he's writing down on the registration document.
"No, I'm her guardian" she corrected him and Christine quietly looked at her and went back to the principal.
"Okay" he nodded, adjusting his medicated glass down to his nose.
"I will ask dear Christine three questions and if she is able to give correct answers, she will be called upon when deem fit" Berg informed them meticulously in a calm tone like a father advising his children and she nodded.
"Sure" she smiled encouragingly at Christine.
"Here is my question" Berg now focused on Christine.
"Who is the next in line monarch of England?" Berg questioned taking up his pen again to write down her response.
"Currently, Queen Elizabeth is still alive but it is known that the next in line to the throne is Prince Edward the second (Edward II)" Christine replied.
"Very good" Berg nodded, writing down her response, he nodded his head, impressed.
"Next question" he rubbed his chin.
"Who is the owner of this high school?" Berg seems not to understand the cheap questions that were set by the examiner, but for weeks, most children have failed to get the real answer.
"As the name implies, Mr. Morris Farooqi, an India scholar" Christine chuckled.
"Wow" this word escaped from Emerald's mouth, she didn't know till now that Christine is this bright academically.
"And here is the last question" they locked gazes.
"What is the coldness and hotness of the body?" Berg asked.
"That will definitely be... temperature?" Christine connoted the word, rhetorically and he smiled.
"You have got one brilliant daughter, Madam" Berg commended and when he realized that she was his maid, he cleared his throat awkwardly.
"Thanks though" she smiled stroking Christine's back.
"You did well" she whispered to Christine's ear and she smiled.
"Thanks, Aunt Em" she smiled brightly.
"Well, I will get back to you before the weekend so you can start the processes" Berg informed them politely.
"Thank you very much, sir. I anticipate your favorable response" and they left his office smiling happily.
"What a brilliant child" Berg glanced through her school profile with a small smile on his face.
"Do you think I will soar through?" Christine asked as they walked back to where she had parked the car.
"You always make me proud, dear. So believe me, you will make it" she assured her lovingly with an unbreakable smile on her face.
She caressed Christine's hair gently, Christine smiled.
"And what about you, do you like your new school?" she asked anxiously, they hop into the car.
"I love the school though it's far from the house" Christine sighed like one who is displeased and at the same time excited.
"You don't have to worry about that, I will wake you up early" she tried to cheer her up before her mood went bad.
"And will you stay with me forever?" The question came as a shock to Emerald, she fell silent.
