Chapter 23

Dire Mood

t's been a week, neither Blake nor Christine are showing any improvement on healing. Based on the doctor's words, they were unwilling to live. They have no hope to live again.

"Aren't these people the same people that admit not to love her?" Emerald pondered on these words each time she took care of them.

She thought she had an impact on Christine's life but maybe it's a lie, Christine seems to be using her in the past to get over her mum.

"Well I don't care to be used by them" she has already made up her mind, it is a do or die for her. She has chosen to stand by them whether they treat her wrongly or not. She sees them as another family now.

"Please take your medicine" she muttered sadly to unconscious Blake while trying to put the tablespoon holding liquid medicine into his mouth but it did not pass through.

She sighed and observed him for a while, he looked calm, pale and at the same time incredibly handsome.

She disagreed never to die if she had a husband as handsome as Blake.

"Shirley... Shirley..." Blake mumbled some words that she heard clearly, she tried not to let it get over her.

"She isn't here anymore, I'm the one for you now" she smiled and drank the medicine from the plate, then she planted a soft kiss on his lips; this was the method she used in giving him the medicine which worked.

She sealed his lips with her, having a close look at his charming pale face. She tried not to let her emotions get the best of her and suddenly, there's a hard knock on the door which made her stumble away from him.

"It's Christine" the maid who seemed to be on duty reported anxiously, she didn't demand any more words as she rushed out of the master's bedroom.

"Clean the tray off" she instructed the maid before entering Christine's room.

Luckily the doctor hadn't left yet, so she walked toward him.

"What is happening to them? I don't know who to call if anything bad happens to them" she's as worried as one would ever be.

She doesn't know Blake's parents nor does she have the right to confront them in a situation like this. Obviously, maids are obliged to quit in this status quo but she didn't. She wanted to get to the end of this.

"Christine will be alright soon, you need to carefully follow the medication as prescribed" the doctor informed meticulously so she won't miss any line, she nodded with keen attention.

"Christine" the doctor left minutes later and she arranged the duvet on Christine.

"You need to wake up and start your schooling, please you must fight this" she smiled warmly at her before leaving the room with the medicine wraps.

Few days later, Blake and Christine recovered fully by the help of Emerald and he did not delay to start work.

Blake walked into the boardroom in his tuxedo with Jason beside him and after addressing the needed board members, he took his seat.

"What is this meeting for?" he asked slyly.

Obviously, there is never a need for any kind of board meeting but this came as a surprise to him which made him attend with no complaint, now he needs to know the reason for the meeting.

"At first you divorced late Madam Shirley, now she is dead, ain't you supposed to mourn her for months?" one of the board members fired at him.

"That aside, we are no longer interested in investing in your company since the Benson's are backing out" the shareholder informed him, fearlessly. He smirked, rubbing his nose.

"Are you done?" he glanced at each and everyone of them who stared at him in awe. He had no shame or remorse.

"What?" one of the board members scoffed.

"Do I look like the cause of her death or the reason for their back out?" he staged an annoying come back which got all of them muttering in repugnant.

"Are you even alright? I heard you were sick for days, this made it more authentic that you ain't mentally sound" one of the board members scorned him in anger.

"Get the fuck out of my company if you are not interested. I don't rear scums!" he yelled at them in disgust, he's still healing from his loss and all he gets from his workers are queries and useless conflicts.

They should go to hell, he thought in annoyance. The board members look astonished by this fact, him not wanting them is rare.

The Benson's were sitting on the terrace with their lawyer standing far beside them. The cool breeze from the tall trees planted in the yard made the terrace the best place to be during noon.

"I will not let this happen. My child will never die this way, this is injustice" Benson disagreed, shaking his head continuously.

"We need to call the authorities, this is getting out of hand. What did he do to our daughter that made her want to come to Italy! We want justice" Benson's wife cried out dolefully.

Obviously, it was their usual trick. Only close people like their lawyer know this act of theirs.

"The authorities won't be able to hold him down if we have no evidence. We need evidence to ruin that scum's life. I believe he killed my daughter" Benson didn't sway away from his decision. He stands firm in his word, not wavering.

"My husband is right, lawyer. You need to cook something hot for this son of a bitch. Shirley is our only daughter!" Benson's wife paused.

"If possible, you can put him in a tight spot where he can never be able to rescue himself" she added in a mischievous and devilish tone, her husband smirking nodding his head in adjournment.

"Last I heard from my secretary, he has lost twenty percent (20%) of investors and shareholders," Benson sneered, holding a creepy smile.

"He will definitely run into bankruptcy" she laughed mockingly with a loud voice.

All these times their lawyer has been silent, he finally cleared his throat to speak.

"Is it that I should get rid of this, Mr. Blake?" the lawyer questioned cryptically, staring at both Benson and his
