Chapter 18

Invisible Wind

As the morning fresh sun shines on the city, activities begin to take place at its deem time. Blake entered into the precinct with his man, Jason.

"Is the call true?" He asked Jason as they climbed the short stairs.

"Definitely, it was directly from the police head officer" Jason pulled open another intermediary door which they entered deeper into the station.

They received and ignored some greetings.

"And he is in his office at this time?" He questioned.

Blake doesn't like it when he is stood up for a meeting, to him, time is essential - very important and need not to be wasted for any flimsy reasons.

"Yes, sir" Jason assured as he stopped at a door having a bold name on the nameplate "HOD Office".

"I guess it's here" he raised a brow.

"Yes" Jason knocked and after a voice sounded through the door, he beckoned to leave.

"I will wait right here for you," Jason suggested courteously.

"You are part of this investigation, come in" he instructed and so they entered the head of the department office.

The office was not as perfect and comfortable as that of the high quality private precincts.

Immediately the HOD officer sees them, he rushes towards them and they exchange pleasantries by handshake. Soon after, they took their seats across from each other.

"I heard there are updates about my house theft" he made the first move, speaking rhetorically and the officer nodded.

"You are well informed," the officer paused.

"If you care to go through the CCTV camera..." the officer begins but was cut off by Jason who obviously cleared his throat.

"We have already seen those," Jason informed politely.

"Sure, sure" the officer nodded and took back his seat as he was about to go and bring his laptop from the desk.

"I want to interrogate this criminal" he informed vividly.

"This..." the officer wanted to disapprove his request since it wasn't part of the working ethics but when he remembered that Blake is one of the top city richest men, he gave him a green card.

"Sure, go ahead" the officer let out a mischievous toothy smile.

"Take me to the place," he said.

They left the HOD's office, heading down into the interrogation room. Through the transparent wide window, Mr. Ashton could be seen sitting on the iron chair with his hands - cuffed.

They could see him but he couldn't see them.

"We will be outside if there's anything" the officer informed him courteously.

"Thank you" letting out a heavy exhale, he pulled the door and entered the room.

Cameras and speakers were on standby, to hear whatever confession Ashton had to say. He sat across from him.

"Do you know who I am?" he asked.

He tried his best not to startle Ashton nor make any action that will trigger his anger. He only wanted to hear the truth and maybe set him free, else if he does otherwise - he is prone to rot in jail for the rest of his life.

"If not the scum puppet husband of a bossy arrogant wife, then who?" Ashton spat in disgust, he smirked.

"If you don't comply with me and behave yourself. You will have the next impact" he warned steadily.

"Fuck you, asshole" yet Ashton said not withstanding.

"Why did you steal my belongings? Did I ever offend you?" he asked cryptically.

"I didn't steal it. I only helped you do some voluntary giveaway" as Ashton speaks, he continues laughing mockingly and this behavior of his, pisses Blake off.

Soon, Jason entered the room and whispered something to his ear.

"Why didn't they notify me?" he looked angry with his fury eyebrows as he stood from the seat.

"I'm done here. Don't release him if no one comes for him" he said these words as soon as he came out from the interrogation room.

"Yes sir" the HOD officer and a few officers who were present said in unison.

And he left into the other part of the precinct, heading to the general exit. Immediately, his phone rings.

"Emerald?" he muttered the caller's name while wondering if he should take the call or not.

In the Luncheon hospital, operated by purely white German staff with great quality. All appliances, equipment and furniture were imported from the states and original. Only the building speaks greater things than talk of the interior.

It was Emerald's first time entering a place so flourishing and dazzling, with gleaming golden lights and perfectly curated hallway. It was exquisite.

Christine has been admitted in the hospital and as the doctor explained, Christine contracted foot disease while playing the soccer game but surprisingly the field is normally sterilized and hygienic.

She sat beside Christine who's eyes were closed, and adjusted the duvet up to her chest.

"Please be okay, sweetheart" she whispered softly and immediately the door pulled open after a sharp knock.

"Sir..." she stood from the bed, giving way for him to see his daughter - looking sad.

"What is wrong with her?" he asked anxiously with his forehead squeezed into triple as a sign of concern.

Though Blake doesn't show affection towards his child, it's noticeable that he neither jokes with her affairs. He only behaves sternly to her so she would grow up without relying on him rather, herself and being more courageous.

"The doctor said it's foot disease," she said sadly.

"How is that possible? The soccer pitch is one of the neatest places I could ever think of" he vouched for the school instead of his daughter's failing health.

Some parents will even attempt to sue the school without hesitation.

"Mistakes happen," she said.

"Not with my daughter's life" he said avidly turning to her with his sharp annoying gaze, she swallowed nervously.

Suddenly, the bed made a scrambling and cranky sound and their attention swayed towards Christine. Christine slowly opened her eyes and at first everything seemed to blur until it fully cleared into bright vision.

Christine smiled brightly and immediately she caught sight of her father and Blake who had been anxious a while ago, subtle, behaving as one who doesn't care a bit. This made her smirked softly.

"Baby Christy, you are awake" she hurried closer to her bed wearing a warm smile.

"Will I be okay?" Christine asked frantically as tears gradually gathered around her eyelids.

She looked so afraid of death, she wasn't ready to lose her father even if he is the least person that cares about her.
