Chapter 7
Noella’s POV
Could I ever have the heart of a killer? Of course not.
I hesitated when I had a good chance to kill her. I had a good chance to clear my first target.
Her face didn't move away from the mirror; she was smiling at her beautiful make up and already gathered hair. Indeed, she looked pretty.
I stand behind her, adjusting the wedding gown to be body-fitting and also to arrange the bottom wide steel that will puff the gown when Laura comes into the room.
Laura was holding a glass containing liquid, and Sara smiled immediately when she saw her sister.
Congratulations, little sis," Laura said, letting out a toothy smile as she approached Sara.
I had to step backward so as to give them some privacy.
Thanks," Sara finally said, turning to her sister with a bright smile.
What a happy day for her! I guess that's what she was thinking.
"I brought some water for you; you must be thirsty." Laura pushed the glass into her hand, which she received sheepishly.
I watched them express their sisterly love as Sara gulped the water from the glass.
Come, take the glass from her," Laura instructed, and I rushed to take the glass from Sara. Immediately, she fainted.
"What?" I trembled in shock while Laura shot me a knowing stare.
My mind recapped our previous discussion.
A FEW HOURS AGO
Looking all suspicious, Laura approached me early in the morning while I was arranging the wedding area.
"I love my sister, but one thing is for sure: if I can't get it, then she can't," Laura begins.
"I want you to poison my sister on her wedding day and take her place," Laura said bluntly, and my jaw dropped.
But they are family, and they love themselves. How come she has such evil intentions for her sister?
"Why can't you?" I asked frantically.
"Because I can't. None of us can!" Laura raised her voice at me.
"So, what should I do?"
PRESENT TIME
Did she intentionally drug her sister? Still in my thoughts, I didn't know when Laura had undressed her sister and tied her to the chair.
"Hey!" She called me arrogant.
"Y, yes?" I nodded sheepishly, still afraid to move an inch.
Come!" she beckoned with her hand, and I approached her.
She stares at the mirror, smiling happily, like one who has made an achievement.
The yard started bustling and was filled with chatter. The Gammas were hitting bands, the slaves lit the knockout, which made everywhere noisy, and some maids made sure everything was in place.
The Abels sit on the high table anticipating the arrival of the Alpha; as usual, my aunty stands up every few minutes to check if he is closer.
None of them noticed my absence. I was watching them from the window in the mansion with fear taking residence in my body.
After the loud sound of trumpets, we started hearing the neigh of horses and hoofs, then howls from wolves.
Soon, the Alpha arrived, looking as majestic as he is, adding to his domineering and fearful aura.
This man is handsome—so handsome that I lost myself when using words to describe him.
His elders and clan took their seats at the reserved table while he approached my relatives.
Today was his day, the day when he will take in a wife—the lady he will be spending the rest of his life with—but he wasn't smiling. Not even a little smile crept from his lips.
"Oh, greetings to you, Alpha." Feeling all giddy and hyperactive, my aunty greeted him with a smile on her face.
He ignored her and turned to my uncle.
"Greetings to you, Alpha," my uncle said.
"Where is my bride?" He asked curtly in a hoarse tone.
"Ehr, Alpha, the auspicious time isn't here yet," my aunty stuttered frantically as she spoke, and he sneered in annoyance.
His blazing glares made my relatives shiver in fear. They were not ready to receive his wrath, not on such an occasion.
"Call out my bride," he emphasized on each word in anger.
"But -" Laura wanted to speak up but fell silent as soon as her gaze met his.
"Call out the bride!" my uncle instructed with his shaking voice, and some rushed in fear, approaching the room where I was.
I arranged the veil properly on my face. It's a tradition in the wolf kingdom that anyone who opens the woman's veil will be her husband, and this veil cannot be removed publicly. That means he has to take his wife home and unveil her.
Whether she is the woman in it or not, he will have to accept his fate.
As I said earlier, fear was within me. The bunch of flowers I was holding was also shaking.
"Miss Sara, please don't be nervous," the maid said politely.
I only nodded and began watching my step as I walked down the aisle.
I straightened up my chin, willing to accept any punishment for my action. It wasn't a deliberate act anyway.
My eyes were fixed on Alpha Austin; he wasn't smiling, yet he is so handsome. The suit he was wearing fitted him perfectly. I couldn't get enough of his beauty.
I was lost in his eyes until I got closer to them. My relatives and his attention focused on me, and I became nervous again.
"Alpha Austin, this is my beloved daughter. Please treat her well," my uncle said solemnly with sadness written on his face, and Austin smirked.
"She is my wife; you won't tell me what to do with her." He snorted in annoyance, and they nodded sheepishly.
He stretched out his hand, and without hesitation, I grabbed it. It was warm at first but suddenly became cold.
We marched forward to meet with the priest. All eyes were now on us. Everyone was present to witness the happiness of our Alpha. Both the Omegas and Gammas—no one was excluded from this event.
"Do you swear in the presence of God and his holiness to take him as your lovely husband, rich and poor, better for worse, till death do you apart?" The priest asked holistically, and I paused.
This was all Laura's plan; was I risking spending the rest of my life with my nemesis? He wasn't even my MATE!
